Helios Gas Firepit Table | Square| Corten Steel

The Helios Corten is the square table in weathering steel, and the most forgiving of the four to place. A square reads as a centrepiece from any side at 800 x 800 x 390 mm, and the russet patina pairs with planting and stone rather than standing apart from it, so it suits a courtyard seen from several directions.

This is the Corten model, 390 mm high. Corten is weathering steel: it forms a stable rust-coloured oxide layer that then protects the metal beneath, and holds that weathered look for 20 to 30 years. Brushed stainless does the opposite, holding its as-delivered finish rather than developing a patina, with no transition period and no maintenance beyond an occasional wipe. The practical catch with Corten is the first season: while it is patinating it bleeds orange run-off onto pale paving, and on porous stone that can leave a permanent mark, so position it on darker slabs for the first summer or sit it on a mat. Both finishes cost the same £1,729 here and carry the same burner, so nothing rides on this but how you want the table to age.

A square suits a corner sofa or four chairs set around the fire, where nobody should be stranded at the far end of it. The rectangle is the one to pick for a long sofa or a run of dining chairs.
