What bioethanol gives you, and what it does not

Treat a bioethanol fire as the centrepiece of an evening rather than the thing keeping you warm through it.

Run time and fuel cost

Most burners give 3 to 5 hours per fill depending on burner size and flame setting. UK bioethanol fuel runs around £3 to £5 per litre, so a 2-litre fill burning for 4 hours works out at roughly £1.50 to £2.50 an hour. That is more per hour than logs and less than most bottled gas.

Materials in this range

These are steel pieces, in bare and in white or black lacquered finishes, with one cast cement model. Lacquered steel holds a flat, even colour outdoors but an untreated chip will corrode from that point, so touch up any damage rather than leaving it.

Honest trade-offs

This is a designer range rather than an entry-level one, and the prices reflect that. Bioethanol also costs more per hour to run than wood, and the flame is quieter and lower than a wood fire of the same size. What you buy is the ability to have a real flame somewhere a flue was never going to happen.

Do I need a flue or any installation?

No. A bioethanol burner needs no flue, no gas connection and no building work. It needs open air above it and clearance around it, the same as any other fire feature.
