Overview:
- The Flex 50SS is the first size in the Flex Single Sided range to offer an integrated log-storage box alongside the full-width All Flame opening, a configuration choice rather than a separate product. At 1470mm wide on the XL900 burner in All Flame form, it’s built for a genuine feature wall.
-
Design & Build:
- Zinc-sealed mild steel surround and toughened glass, available in three configurations at the same price: All Flame (full-width XL900 burner, 15,000 BTU/h from a 9-litre tank), or with an integrated log-storage box built into the left or right side of the opening (XL500 burner, 11,430 BTU/h from a 5-litre tank, with the freed-up width holding a stack of decorative logs behind glass rather than flame). The burner is available in Stainless Steel as standard, or a Black ceramic-coated finish for a flat, monochrome look, at a fixed premium.
-
What it does well:
- All Flame runs 8 to 13 hours per fill and heats a 110m³ room; the log-box configurations trade some of that output (11,430 BTU/h, 80m³) for a genuine styling detail, at no extra cost. All three share the same 1470mm frame and 807mm height, so the choice is purely about which look suits the room.
-
Trade-off worth knowing:
- Choosing a log-box configuration means living with less flame width and heat output than All Flame for the same money, a styling trade rather than a free upgrade. If maximum heat output matters more than the log detail, All Flame is the one to pick.
Flex 50SS questions, answered
Does the Flex 50SS need a chimney or flue?+
No. It runs on bioethanol, which burns clean with no smoke, embers or soot, so there is nothing to vent. It frames into a wall or opening with zero clearance to combustibles - no masonry chimney, gas line or flue required.
Can the Flex 50SS be used both indoors and outdoors?+
Yes, it is rated for both. Indoors it needs a room of at least 110m³.
How is the Flex 50SS installed?+
It frames directly into a stud wall (wood or metal) or an existing hearth opening, with zero clearance to combustibles required around the frame. There is no gas line, flue or masonry work: once the opening is framed to size, the unit drops in and connects to nothing else. At 71.4kg (All Flame) it is a two to four-person lift into place depending on the model; check the exact figure on this page before planning your install.
What does the Flex 50SS actually cost to run for an evening?+
A full 9 litre fill burns for 8-13 hours. We sell e-NRG bioethanol at £65 for a 20 litre carton, so a full fill is about £29 and a three-hour evening works out at roughly £7 to £11. There is no standing cost, since it only uses fuel while it is alight.
Which Flex size should I choose?+
The 50SS is the first size in the Flex range to offer an integrated log-storage configuration alongside the full-width All Flame opening, all three at the same price. Choosing a log-box configuration trades some flame width and heat output for the styling detail; All Flame keeps the maximum output.
Which fuel does the Flex 50SS burn, and do you sell it?+
It runs on e-NRG bioethanol, which we stock in 20 litre cartons. Bioethanol produces no smoke, embers or ash, so there is nothing to clean out after use.
Are there any accessories that fit the Flex 50SS?+
Yes. Its XL900 burner takes the XL Baffles and Black Glass Charcoal, sold separately.
Is the Flex 50SS certified for indoor use?+
Yes. This model is certified to EN 16647, the UK and EU safety standard for indoor bioethanol fireplaces.
Who the Flex 50SS is for
It is a good fit if:
- You want the choice of a full-width flame or an integrated log-storage detail on one side, at no extra cost.
- You want a genuine feature wall: the widest All Flame opening below the two-person-plus sizes.
Consider something else if:
- Maximum heat output matters more than the log-box styling detail: choose the All Flame configuration rather than a log-box option, which trades some output for the look.
- You want a narrower or wider option: the Flex 42SS or 60SS sit either side.
