Overview:
- The Flex 68SS is the widest size in the Flex range with a full-width All Flame configuration that still runs on a single burner, the XL1200, the largest single-burner unit in the range, with four configurations at one price: All Flame, log box left, log box right, or log boxes on both sides. From 86SS upward, All Flame chains two or three burners together instead.
-
Design & Build:
- Zinc-sealed mild steel surround and toughened glass, built around a Grade 304 stainless XL1200 burner in All Flame form, delivering 15,290 BTU/h (16.1 MJ/h) from a 10-litre tank; log-box configurations step down to the XL900 (single box) or XL500 (both sides) burner as the flame width narrows to make room for log storage. The burner is available in Stainless Steel as standard, or a Black ceramic-coated finish for a flat, monochrome look, at a fixed premium.
-
What it does well:
- All Flame runs 9 to 14 hours per fill and is rated for a 115m³ room. Even the most reduced configuration, log boxes on both sides, still runs on an 11,430 BTU/h burner, matching the 32SS's full-width output and comfortably ahead of the smaller 18SS.
-
Trade-off worth knowing:
- At 1930mm and up to 97.1kg, it's a genuine feature wall rather than a drop-in upgrade, and every size above it in the range is wider and heavier still. If that scale is more than the room needs, the 50SS delivers most of the architectural presence in a noticeably lighter, narrower unit.
Flex 68SS questions, answered
Does the Flex 68SS need a chimney or flue?+
No. It runs on bioethanol, which burns clean with no smoke, embers or soot, so there is nothing to vent. It frames into a wall or opening with zero clearance to combustibles - no masonry chimney, gas line or flue required.
Can the Flex 68SS be used both indoors and outdoors?+
Yes, it is rated for both. Indoors it needs a room of at least 115m³.
How is the Flex 68SS installed?+
It frames directly into a stud wall (wood or metal) or an existing hearth opening, with zero clearance to combustibles required around the frame. There is no gas line, flue or masonry work: once the opening is framed to size, the unit drops in and connects to nothing else. At 97.1kg (All Flame) it is a two to four-person lift into place depending on the model; check the exact figure on this page before planning your install.
What does the Flex 68SS actually cost to run for an evening?+
A full 10 litre fill burns for 9-14 hours. We sell e-NRG bioethanol at £65 for a 20 litre carton, so a full fill is about £33 and a three-hour evening works out at roughly £7 to £11. There is no standing cost, since it only uses fuel while it is alight.
Which Flex size should I choose?+
The 68SS is the widest size in the launch that still offers a full-width All Flame configuration on a single burner - the 78SS is wider but ships with log boxes fixed on both sides, with no All Flame option at all. The 68SS gives four configurations at one price: All Flame, log box left, log box right, or log boxes on both sides. If that scale is more than the room needs, the 50SS delivers most of the architectural presence in a noticeably lighter, narrower unit.
Which fuel does the Flex 68SS burn, and do you sell it?+
It runs on e-NRG bioethanol, which we stock in 20 litre cartons. Bioethanol produces no smoke, embers or ash, so there is nothing to clean out after use.
Are there any accessories that fit the Flex 68SS?+
Yes. Its XL1200 burner takes the XL Baffles and Black Glass Charcoal, sold separately.
Is the Flex 68SS certified for indoor use?+
Yes. This model is certified to EN 16647, the UK and EU safety standard for indoor bioethanol fireplaces.
Who the Flex 68SS is for
It is a good fit if:
- You want one of the longest single-fill runtimes in the launch (9-14 hours, matched only by the two largest sizes) and the choice of four configurations at one price.
- You are building a genuine feature wall, not a drop-in upgrade, and can accommodate up to 97.1kg.
Consider something else if:
- That scale is more than the room needs: the Flex 50SS delivers most of the architectural presence in a noticeably lighter, narrower unit.
