Siting and living with it

At this size the Damm is a fixed feature rather than something you move between uses, so decide where it lives before it arrives. Allow a metre of clear space in front of the opening and keep it away from anything overhead: a flued fireplace still needs open air above it, so a pergola roof or shade sail is not an option.

The corten body will stain whatever it stands on while the patina forms over the first few months. On gravel or grass that does not matter. On pale porcelain paving it leaves marks that are difficult to lift, so plan the base accordingly.

The trade-off worth knowing: the plancha plate holds heat well once up to temperature, which suits searing and slower cooking, but it takes longer to get there than a gas grill. Light it with the meal in mind rather than on impulse.

Pallet Deliveries & Difficult Access:

Larger items are delivered on a pallet curbside. Drivers may reposition the pallet on a flat, hard surface if possible, but are not required to navigate obstacles such as steps.

Returns:

We accept returns for faulty products upon proof of the defect. Please provide us with images of the defect before your return can be approved.
For non-faulty returns, customers bear return shipping costs, which can be significant due to the heavy nature of the items.

Key Points of Interest

The grill functions optimally after it has been used once or twice, allowing the oil to 'season' the plate. Allowing the oil to 'burn in' protects the grill from rusting when not in use and makes cooking easier.
The grill can be cleaned simply by oiling it and scraping off residue with a spatula. Apply a final coat of oil to the grill plate before storing to prevent rust.
Worktop attachments are not supplied as standard with the DAMM. These can be ordered separately.
Use one wall bracket per metre of flue pipe or use a roof vent.
Products should be unpacked immediately upon receipt to release any moisture trapped inside the packaging. If the product is left in its packaging, it may develop uneven rust patches.
Products are delivered without rust. The corten steel rusting process takes about 4-5 months, depending on weather conditions.
We do not recommend using corten steel within 2 km of a coastline.
We recommend using vegetable oils with a higher smoke point, such as groundnut oil or sunflower oil, to cook on the grill plate.
Rust can be fixed by applying Owatrol. This is a penetrating rust inhibitor that forms a protective anti-rust coating. Owatrol protects the product and stops the rust on corten steel flaking off.
Clean annually by hosing off dirt with clean tap water.
