- Base 40 does two jobs at once: a coffee table by day, a fire pit table by evening.

What it does well:
- The square profile and generous surface hold drinks and plates comfortably around the flame, and the low height suits a lounge-style seating layout rather than dining chairs.

Design & Build:
- The concrete tabletop comes in Natural, Graphite or Bone, all finished with Fluid Concrete Technology to resist scratching, staining and mould; Grade A teak is also available for a warmer look. Teak versions include an integral toughened glass surround for extra peace of mind around the flame (a smaller, built-in element, not the same as the optional Fire Screen or AB8 Burner Cover accessories sold separately).

Fuel:
- Three fuel options: Bioethanol for indoor or outdoor use, or Liquid Propane and Natural Gas for outdoor use only. Bioethanol delivers 6kW (20,433 BTU/h) with a 7 to 9 hour burn from 8 litres. Gas runs hotter, up to 65,000 BTU/h: Liquid Propane lasts 8 to 20 hours per tank, Natural Gas burns for as long as you leave it on.

Trade-off worth knowing:
- At 74.7kg it is heavier than the Ark 40 or Vertigo 40 in this range, though the Mojito 40 is heavier still at 81.9kg, so plan its final position before it arrives.
Natural Gas requires professional installation: a certified plumber must fit a permanent gas connection before use. This installation is not included in the price and is not arranged by us; it is the customer's responsibility. Liquid Propane needs no installation and runs from an external tank.
Base 40 questions, answered
Can the Base 40 be used indoors?
Yes, on bioethanol. It needs a room of at least 116m³ (4,097 ft³). The Liquid Propane and Natural Gas versions are for outdoor use only.
How is the Base 40 delivered, and will I need help getting it into place?
Delivery is free to UK mainland, and it comes on a pallet to the easiest access point on your property, usually the driveway or the front of the house. It is not brought inside, unpacked or assembled. Plan on two people to move it the last stretch. It weighs 74.7kg and is 100cm x 100cm across. If access is tight, message us before ordering and we will talk it through.
What does the Base 40 actually cost to run for an evening?
On bioethanol: a full 8 litre fill burns for 7-9 hours. We sell e-NRG bioethanol at £65 for a 20 litre carton, so a full fill is about £26 and a three-hour evening works out at roughly £9 to £11. There is no standing cost, since it only uses fuel while it is alight. Liquid Propane and Natural Gas running costs depend on your tank/meter supplier, so we cannot quote a fixed figure for those.
Does the Base 40 need professional installation?
Only the Natural Gas version. That needs a certified plumber to fit a permanent gas connection before use; the installation is not included in the price and is not arranged by us. Bioethanol and Liquid Propane need no installation, and Liquid Propane runs from an external tank you can disconnect and move.
What is the difference between the Base 40 and the Ark 40?
They share a price, a 100cm x 100cm footprint, a height of 33.9cm, the same finishes and the same burner. The Base 40 is square and weighs 74.7kg; the Ark 40 is round and weighs 58.3kg. Pick on shape.

Which fuel does the Base 40 burn, and do you sell it?
The bioethanol version runs on e-NRG bioethanol, which we stock in 20 litre cartons. Bioethanol produces no smoke, embers or ash, so there is no flue and nothing to clear out afterwards.
Can I leave the Base 40 outside all year?
Yes. The concrete composite is made to handle a full UK outdoor season; a twice-yearly coat of clear polymer sealer keeps it looking new (see the manufacturer's care guide). Teak models can stay out year-round too and will weather to a silver-grey patina, which is cosmetic and does not affect the wood's strength.
Who the Base 40 is for
It is a good fit if:
- You want a square table that reads as a genuine coffee table: solid closed sides rather than an open plinth.
- You are furnishing a space with mostly square or rectangular furniture, where the round Ark 40 would look out of place.
- You want the option of teak. Base 40 and Ark 40 are the only two in this size class that offer it.
Consider something else if:
- Your room is smaller than 116m³ (4,097 ft³) and you want to burn it indoors: that is larger than most UK living rooms, so check before choosing the indoor application. Outdoors there is no room-size requirement at all.
- You want the lightest option in the group. At 74.7kg it is heavier than the Ark 40 (58.3kg) and the Pod 40 (50.3kg); the Mojito 40 is heavier still at 81.9kg.
