Overview:
- A round profile and a wide rim built for resting a drink make the Ark 40 an easy fit for courtyards, patios and pool decks alike.
-
Design & Build:
- The tabletop comes in Natural, Graphite or Bone concrete, or Grade A teak for a warmer finish. Fluid Concrete Technology resists scratches, stains and mould, so it holds its look through a full UK outdoor season. Height-adjustable feet keep the table level on uneven paving.
-
Fuel:
- Three fuel options: Bioethanol for indoor or outdoor use, or Liquid Propane and Natural Gas for outdoor use only. Bioethanol delivers 6kW (20,433 BTU/h) with a 7 to 9 hour burn from 8 litres. Gas runs hotter, up to 65,000 BTU/h: Liquid Propane lasts 8 to 20 hours per tank, Natural Gas burns for as long as you leave it on.
-
Certification:
- This model is certified to EN 16647, the UK and EU safety standard for indoor bioethanol fireplaces.
-
What it does well:
- Its round profile and wide rim give genuine table space for a drink right at the flame, a shape that suits round loungers and cafe-style seating better than the rectangular tables in this range.
-
Trade-off worth knowing:
- At 58.3kg, this is a two-person lift for positioning, not a one-person carry.
Natural Gas requires professional installation: a certified plumber must fit a permanent gas connection before use. This installation is not included in the price and is not arranged by us; it is the customer's responsibility. Liquid Propane needs no installation and runs from an external tank.
Ark 40 questions, answered
Can the EcoSmart Ark 40 be used indoors?+
Yes, on bioethanol. It is certified to EN 16647, the UK and EU safety standard for indoor bioethanol fireplaces, and needs a room of at least 116m³ (4,097 ft³). The Liquid Propane and Natural Gas versions are for outdoor use only.
How is it delivered, and will I need help getting it into place?+
Delivery is free to UK mainland, and it comes on a pallet to the easiest access point on your property, usually the driveway or the front of the house. It is not brought inside, unpacked or assembled, so plan on two people to move it the last stretch: it weighs 58.3kg and is 100cm by 100cm across, which will not go through a standard doorway upright. If access is tight, message us before ordering and we will talk it through.
What does it actually cost to run for an evening?+
A full 8 litre fill burns for 7-9 hours. We sell e-NRG bioethanol at £65 for a 20 litre carton, so a full fill is about £26 and a three-hour evening works out at roughly £9 to £11. There is no standing cost, since it only uses fuel while it is alight.
Does the Ark 40 need professional installation?+
Only the Natural Gas version. That needs a certified plumber to fit a permanent gas connection before use; the installation is not included in the price and is not arranged by us. Bioethanol and Liquid Propane need no installation, and Liquid Propane runs from an external tank you can disconnect and move.
What is the difference between the Ark 40 and the Base 40?+
They share a price, a 100cm x 100cm footprint, a height of 33.9cm, the same finishes and the same burner. The Ark 40 is round and weighs 58.3kg; the Base 40 is square and weighs 74.7kg. Pick on shape, and on how often you expect to move it.
What is included in the box?+
An operation manual and Black Glass Charcoal decorative media for around the burner. Bioethanol models also include a jerry can, a bottle adaptor, a refillable butane lighter (shipped without butane) and an extendable lighting rod. A burner cover and fire screen are available separately.
Which fuel does it burn, and do you sell it?+
Bioethanol models run on e-NRG bioethanol, which we stock in 20 litre cartons. Bioethanol produces no smoke, embers or ash, so there is no flue and nothing to clear out afterwards.
Can I leave it outside all year?+
The concrete composite is made to handle a full UK outdoor season. For the off-season we sell a fitted Ark 40 Protective Cover, which is the sensible way to keep water and grit out of the burner recess over winter.
Who the Ark 40 is for
It is a good fit if:
- You want a round table. Of our five 100cm EcoSmart pieces, the Ark 40 is the only round table; the Base 40, Mojito 40 and Vertigo 40 are square, and the Pod 40 is a raised bowl rather than a table.
- You want to set a drink down at the flame. The wide flat rim is designed for exactly that, which the raised-bowl Pod 40 cannot offer.
- You are working around curved or cafe-style seating, where a square table leaves awkward gaps.
- You want the option of teak. Only the Ark 40 and Base 40 offer a teak finish at this size.
Consider something else if:
- Your room is smaller than 116m³ (4,097 ft³) and you want to burn it indoors. That is roughly 46m² of floor at a standard 2.5m ceiling, which is larger than most UK living rooms. Below that, choose the outdoor application. Outdoors there is no room-size requirement at all.
- You want a low, coffee-table profile. The Vertigo 40 sits at 24.8cm against the Ark 40's 33.9cm.
- You want a sculptural piece that reads as an object rather than furniture. The Pod 40 stands 50.4cm tall.
How the Ark 40 compares to our other 100cm fire pits
We sell five EcoSmart pieces with the same 100cm x 100cm footprint, and all five run the identical AB8 burner: 6kW / 20,433 BTU/h on bioethanol, 7-9 hours per fill from 8 litres, and up to 65,000 btu/h on gas. Heat, burn time and running cost are the same whichever you choose, so the decision comes down to shape, height, weight and finish.
