Biza Open questions, answered
Does the Biza Open work as a normal wood fire, or is it cooking-only?
Both. Light logs in the base and you have an open wood fire; slide the 48cm plancha over the top when you want to cook, and take it off again when you don't. The open base underneath also stores logs, so your fuel stays close to hand and off the ground.
Can I use the Biza Open in a UK smoke control area?
Yes. It's a standalone outdoor appliance, and the Clean Air Act's smoke control rules only tighten for fires flued into a building - a summerhouse chimney, for example. Burn Ready to Burn certified, or otherwise well-seasoned and properly dried, logs and it's legal to use on any UK postcode, smoke control area or not. Excessive smoke from any fire can still count as a statutory nuisance if it genuinely bothers neighbours, so dry wood matters either way.
How is the Biza Open delivered, and will I need help placing it?
Free UK mainland delivery, next working day if you order before 12pm on a weekday. It arrives on a pallet at 51.9kg, 80 × 80cm across. Plan on a three or four-person lift, or a hired trolley - this is not a two-person job.
Will the finish on the Biza Open need any looking after?
Depends which you choose. Corten Steel arrives raw silver-grey and starts to rust within a few weeks outdoors; the patina matures over roughly 6 to 12 months into a stable, deep rust-brown that doesn't rust through. Black Steel carries a heat-resistant coating that, like the Corten, also weathers and develops a rustic character of its own over time.
How do I clean the plancha on the Biza Open?
Push food residue into the fire below with a spatula while it's still warm, then wipe the surface clean. There's no need to remove or scrub it between uses.
What is the difference between the Biza Open and the Biza?
They share an identical cooking spec: same 48cm plancha, same 6mm thickness, same 380cm² cooking surface. The Biza Open's base is an open frame with built-in log storage, which is why it's 2kg heavier and £59.55 more than the closed-base Biza.
Fire pit or outdoor fireplace: which is better for a UK garden?
An outdoor fireplace and a fire pit are not interchangeable. The Biza Open is the fire pit side of that choice: it's an open fire with no flue, so heat radiates outward rather than being funnelled through one opening, which is what lets you cook on it from any side. An outdoor fireplace instead stands upright with a stove pipe, throwing heat forward from a single opening. Choose an open format like this when the fire and the cooking surface need to stay the focus, not tucked to one side.
Who the Biza Open is for
It is a good fit if:
- You want somewhere to keep a stack of logs dry and within reach of the fire, rather than stored elsewhere in the garden.
- You want the same cooking spec as the standard Biza and don't mind paying a little more for the open-frame base.
