The Corten finish develops its rust patina in about 4–5 months. We do not recommend using corten steel within 2 km of a coastline.

An outdoor fireplace and a fire pit are not interchangeable, and the Gap is the fireplace side of that choice. A fireplace stands upright with a flue, so it draws smoke up and away and throws heat forward from a single opening, which makes it a focal point against a wall or at the end of a terrace. A fire pit sits low and open, radiating in every direction, so people can sit all the way round it. Choose a fireplace when the seating faces one way and smoke drifting across the table is the thing to avoid; choose a pit when the fire itself is the centre of the circle. If the fire is meant to sit in the middle of the seating instead, the Halo fire pit and Quad fire table are the open-format alternatives.
