Choosing a size
The BonTon comes in three sizes. The 40 suits a courtyard or a smaller terrace where the fireplace is the single focal point. The 50 is the middle option for most gardens. The 60 is the one to choose only if you have genuine space around it, because the largest body needs the most clearance and is the hardest to move once sited.
The high flue is the practical reason to pick this model over a lower one. It lifts smoke above head height, which matters most when the fireplace sits close to seating, a wall or a neighbour's boundary. The trade-off is height and visual presence: this is not a discreet piece.
BonTon questions, answered
Does the BonTon need a chimney or professional installation?+
No. It's a self-contained wood-burning fireplace with its own built-in stove pipe (10cm on the 40, 14cm on the 50, 16cm on the 60), so it vents itself with nothing connected to your house. It stands freestanding on its own legs, and there's no flue installation of any kind.
Can I use the BonTon in a UK smoke control area?+
Yes. It's a standalone outdoor appliance, and the Clean Air Act's smoke control rules only tighten for fires flued into a building - a summerhouse chimney, for example. Burn Ready to Burn certified, or otherwise well-seasoned and properly dried, logs and it's legal to use on any UK postcode, smoke control area or not. Excessive smoke from any fire can still count as a statutory nuisance if it genuinely bothers neighbours, so dry wood matters either way.
How is the BonTon delivered, and will I need help placing it?+
Free UK mainland delivery, next working day if you order before 12pm on a weekday. Weight depends on the size you choose: the 40 is 16.8kg (one person can carry it into place without help.), while the 50 (38.8kg) and 60 (45kg) are heavier - plan on two people for the last stretch from the pallet to its final spot.
Will the finish on the BonTon need any looking after?+
Depends which you choose. Corten Steel arrives raw silver-grey and starts to rust within a few weeks outdoors; the patina matures over roughly 6 to 12 months into a stable, deep rust-brown that doesn't rust through. Black Steel carries a heat-resistant coating that, like the Corten, also weathers and develops a rustic character of its own over time.
What is included in the box with the BonTon?+
Spark screen, ash tray, poker & log grid. Cover and Raincap are available separately if you want them.
Do you sell firewood to go with the BonTon?+
No, we don't sell firewood or logs. Any well-seasoned, properly dried hardwood, ideally Ready to Burn certified, will burn cleaner and hotter than damp or resinous wood in any wood-burning appliance.
Which BonTon size should I choose?+
The 40 suits a courtyard or smaller terrace where it's the single focal point. The 50 is the middle option for most gardens. The 60 needs genuine space around it: at 45kg it's the heaviest fireplace we sell and the hardest to reposition once it's sited. The taller flue on the bigger sizes lifts smoke further above head height, which matters most if it sits close to seating, a wall or a neighbour's boundary.
Does the BonTon come assembled, or is there work to do when it arrives?+
Some final assembly - the legs, the detachable spark screen and the stove pipe sections bolt together using the instructions in the box, also downloadable via the QR code on the packaging. No welding and no professional fitting. It's worth doing on a soft surface like carpet or cardboard so the paint doesn't get scratched before it's even outside.
Do I need anything underneath the BonTon?+
We'd recommend it. Even standing on its own legs, a wood fire runs hot underneath - use a heat-resistant mat or a paving slab if you're placing it on decking, grass or anything else you'd rather not scorch.
Who the BonTon is for
It is a good fit if:
- You have a larger garden or terrace and want the tallest, most substantial fireplace in the range - up to 195cm on the 60.
- You want a taller flue to lift smoke well above head height, useful if the fireplace has to sit close to seating or a boundary.
Consider something else if:
- You want a compact piece for a small patio: any of the other five BonFeu fireplaces are lighter and take up less space, starting from 35 × 35cm.
- You want to cook on it: like the BonPyra, it comes with an ash tray and log grid rather than a wok ring, so it's built as an open fire rather than a cooking fireplace.
How this compares to our other garden fireplaces
We sell six BonFeu wood-burning garden fireplaces, all built the same way: a steel body with its own integrated stove pipe, freestanding on its own legs, no installation into your house. Footprint, height, weight and price all vary by model, and the BonTon is the only one sold in three sizes.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BonTino | Round | Comes with a wok ring, ready to cook straight out of the box | 164cm | £219.95 | 15.3kg | Black Steel or Corten Steel |

Bought the Xl version of the Bonfeu Fireplace. What a thing this is! Huge and now central to my outdoor entertainment space. Fireside Boutique was very attentive in answering all my questions over the phone. Highly recommended!
