BonGiro questions, answered
Does the BonGiro need a chimney or professional installation?
No. It's a self-contained wood-burning fireplace with its own built-in 14 cm stove pipe, so it vents itself with nothing connected to your house. It stands freestanding on low legs, and there's no flue installation of any kind.
Can I use the BonGiro in a UK smoke control area?
Yes. It's a standalone outdoor appliance, and the Clean Air Act's smoke control rules only tighten for fires flued into a building - a summerhouse chimney, for example. Burn Ready to Burn certified, or otherwise well-seasoned and properly dried, logs and it's legal to use on any UK postcode, smoke control area or not. Excessive smoke from any fire can still count as a statutory nuisance if it genuinely bothers neighbours, so dry wood matters either way.
How is the BonGiro delivered, and will I need help placing it?
Free UK mainland delivery, next working day if you order before 12pm on a weekday. It arrives on a pallet at 24.6kg, 55 × 55cm across. Plan on two people for the last stretch from the pallet to its final spot.
Will the Steel finish on the BonGiro need any looking after?
It carries a heat-resistant coating built for outdoor use. It will weather and develop its own rustic character over time, the same way our Corten Steel pieces do, just without the orange rust colour.
What is included in the box with the BonGiro?
BBQ grill grid & poker. Cover and Raincap are available separately if you want them.
Do you sell firewood to go with the BonGiro?
No, we don't sell firewood or logs. Any well-seasoned, properly dried hardwood, ideally Ready to Burn certified, will burn cleaner and hotter than damp or resinous wood in any wood-burning appliance.
How does the BonGiro's grill actually work?
It's a rotatable turntable grill with two positions and its own handles, so you swing it in over the flame to cook and back out again without reaching over the fire or lifting anything off. It's included in the box, along with a fire poker.
Does the BonGiro come assembled, or is there work to do when it arrives?
Some final assembly - the legs, the detachable spark screen and the stove pipe sections bolt together using the instructions in the box, also downloadable via the QR code on the packaging. No welding and no professional fitting. It's worth doing on a soft surface like carpet or cardboard so the paint doesn't get scratched before it's even outside.
Do I need anything underneath the BonGiro?
We'd recommend it. Even standing on its own legs, a wood fire runs hot underneath - use a heat-resistant mat or a paving slab if you're placing it on decking, grass or anything else you'd rather not scorch.
Who the BonGiro is for
It is a good fit if:
- You want to grill regularly without lifting a wok ring or lid off first: the rotatable grill swings in and out on its own handles.
- You want the lowest, most compact of the six fireplaces: at 132cm it's noticeably shorter than the others, which stand 145-195cm.
Consider something else if:
- You want the lightest model to move around: at 24.6 kg it's heavier than BonTino, BonCarré, BonBono and BonPyra despite being the shortest of the six - only BonTon's Large and X-Large sizes weigh more.
- You'd rather have a taller flue that lifts smoke further from head height: the BonTon stands up to 195cm.
