Overview:
- The Heritage 56SS is the largest model in EcoSmart's Heritage Firebox Series, a 1624mm-wide see-through insert built for a chimney breast that needs a genuine centrepiece rather than a modest opening filled in. It's the only Heritage size that steps up to a larger burner rather than just a wider surround.
-
Design & Build:
- The same zinc-sealed mild steel surround and toughened glass as the smaller two sizes, but built around a Grade 304 stainless XL900 burner instead of the 26SS/42SS's BK5. That's a real jump in output, 15,000 BTU/h (15.83 MJ/h) against 13,000 BTU/h, not just a bigger box around the same flame.
-
What it does well:
- Runs 8 to 13 hours from a 9-litre tank and is rated for a 110m³ room, more than the 70m³ of the two smaller Heritage sizes, so it genuinely heats a larger open-plan space rather than just looking the part in one.
-
Trade-off worth knowing:
- At 84.3kg and 1624mm wide it needs a proper opening to match; it will overwhelm a standard single-room chimney breast the way the 26SS is sized for. Fitting it into anything narrower than its own width isn't an option, unlike the smaller two sizes which have more room to spare either side.
-
Certification:
- This model is certified to EN 16647, the UK and EU safety standard for indoor bioethanol fireplaces.
Heritage 56SS questions, answered
Does the Heritage 56SS need a chimney or flue?+
No. It runs on bioethanol, which burns clean with no smoke, embers or soot, so there is nothing to vent. It frames into a wall or opening with zero clearance to combustibles - no masonry chimney, gas line or flue required.
Can the Heritage 56SS be used both indoors and outdoors?+
Yes, it is rated for both. Indoors it needs a room of at least 110m³.
How is the Heritage 56SS installed?+
It frames directly into a stud wall (wood or metal) or an existing hearth opening, with zero clearance to combustibles required around the frame. There is no gas line, flue or masonry work: once the opening is framed to size, the unit drops in and connects to nothing else. At 84.3kg it is a two to four-person lift into place depending on the model; check the exact figure on this page before planning your install.
What does the Heritage 56SS actually cost to run for an evening?+
A full 9 litre fill burns for 8-13 hours. We sell e-NRG bioethanol at £65 for a 20 litre carton, so a full fill is about £29 and a three-hour evening works out at roughly £7 to £11. There is no standing cost, since it only uses fuel while it is alight.
Which Heritage size should I choose?+
The Heritage range runs 26SS, 42SS and 56SS. The 26SS and 42SS share the same BK5 burner and output; only the 56SS steps up to the larger XL900 burner for a genuine increase in heat, not just a bigger surround around the same flame. It needs a proper opening to match: fitting it into anything narrower than its own 162cm width is not an option.
Which fuel does the Heritage 56SS burn, and do you sell it?+
It runs on e-NRG bioethanol, which we stock in 20 litre cartons. Bioethanol produces no smoke, embers or ash, so there is nothing to clean out after use.
Are there any accessories that fit the Heritage 56SS?+
Yes. Its XL900 burner takes the XL Baffles, sold separately.
Is the Heritage 56SS certified for indoor use?+
Yes. This model is certified to EN 16647, the UK and EU safety standard for indoor bioethanol fireplaces.
Who the Heritage 56SS is for
It is a good fit if:
- You need a chimney breast that genuinely heats a larger open-plan space, not just looks the part in one: 110m³ rating against the smaller pair's 70m³.
- Your opening is already sized for a genuine centrepiece rather than a modest infill.
Consider something else if:
- Your opening is a standard single-room chimney breast: the Heritage 26SS or 42SS fit without overwhelming the wall.
| Model | Burner | Pick it for | Opening width | Price | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Heritage 26SS | BK5 | Slots into a single-room chimney breast without overwhelming it | 86cm | £1,995 | 44.9kg |
| Heritage 42SS | BK5 | Same flame and output as the 26SS, wider viewing glass | 127cm | £2,495 | 57.4kg |
| Heritage 56SS (this one) | XL900 | Only size with a genuine step up in burner output | 162cm | £4,295 | 84.3kg |
