- The Heritage 42SS is the mid-size model in EcoSmart's Heritage Firebox Series, widening the viewing glass to 1268mm for a chimney breast that needs more visual presence than the 26SS gives it, without stepping up to the largest 56SS.

Design & Build:
- Same zinc-sealed mild steel surround and toughened glass as the rest of the Heritage range, built around the same Grade 304 stainless BK5 burner as the 26SS. That means a bigger flame picture at the same 13,000 BTU/h (13.72 MJ/h) output, not a hotter one.

What it does well:
- Delivers the same 7-11 hour burn from a 5-litre tank as the smaller 26SS, so the extra 408mm of width comes with no extra fuel appetite. At 1050mm tall it also suits a taller chimney breast where the 26SS would sit low in the opening.

Trade-off worth knowing:
- Because it shares the 26SS's burner, the flame doesn't scale up to fill the wider glass the way a bigger burner would; expect a wide viewing area with a similarly-sized flame rather than a proportionally larger one. At 57.4kg it's heavier to lift into place than the 26SS.

Does the Heritage 42SS need a chimney or flue?
No. It runs on bioethanol, which burns clean with no smoke, embers or soot, so there is nothing to vent. It frames into a wall or opening with zero clearance to combustibles - no masonry chimney, gas line or flue required.
Can the Heritage 42SS be used both indoors and outdoors?
Yes, it is rated for both. Indoors it needs a room of at least 70m³ (approx. 25-30m² room).
How is the Heritage 42SS installed?
It frames directly into a stud wall (wood or metal) or an existing hearth opening, with zero clearance to combustibles required around the frame. There is no gas line, flue or masonry work: once the opening is framed to size, the unit drops in and connects to nothing else. At 57.4kg it is a two to four-person lift into place depending on the model; check the exact figure on this page before planning your install.
What does the Heritage 42SS actually cost to run for an evening?
A full 5 litre fill burns for 7-11 hours. We sell e-NRG bioethanol at £65 for a 20 litre carton, so a full fill is about £16 and a three-hour evening works out at roughly £4 to £7. There is no standing cost, since it only uses fuel while it is alight.
Which Heritage size should I choose?
