A chiminea that doubles as a sculpture earns its place on a thoughtful patio. The Tree of Life is a steel chiminea with an intricate cut-out pattern of a stylised tree, throwing branch-shaped light across the patio as the fire burns inside. A design piece as much as a heat feature.
Built from heavy-gauge steel, the Tree of Life uses the traditional chiminea form but trades the standard open mouth for the cut-out tree silhouette across the body. Firelight escapes through the branches and trunk, casting a moving pattern of light across the patio paving and surrounding planting. The tall chimney directs smoke up and away from where guests sit. The fire chamber accepts seasoned hardwood logs and lights easily with kindling.
Available in two finishes at £249.50, the Tree of Life works on a patio, terrace or open decking. Pair with a chiminea cover for year-round outdoor use. Browse the full chiminea collection for the Fern Leaf and Climbing Ivy alternatives.
Width: 35cm wide.
Finish: Available in Heatproof Matt Black Paint or Rustic Patina Steel finish.
Which of the three Weather-it chimineas is the Tree of Life?
The Tree of Life is the most decorative of our three chimineas. At 35cm wide it takes the same footprint as the others, but the branch-and-trunk cut-out throws a moving pattern of light across paving and planting once the fire is going, which makes it as much a garden sculpture as a heater.
| Model | Pattern | Finishes | Height | Price |

Chiminea or fire pit: which is better for a UK garden?
A chiminea is a front-loading wood burner with a narrow chimney neck, and that neck is the whole point: it creates a draw that pulls smoke upward instead of letting it drift across the patio. The trade-off is heat direction. A chiminea throws its warmth forward through the front aperture, giving a focused warm zone, where an open fire pit bowl radiates in every direction. Position a chiminea with the opening facing the seating and it works as a focal-point heater with controlled smoke; choose a bowl instead when people sit all the way round the fire.
| Format | Where the smoke goes | Heat pattern | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chiminea (this one) | Drawn up the chimney neck | Forward, out of the front aperture | Seating sits on one side and smoke is a concern |
| Open fire pit bowl | Drifts with the wind | Radiates in every direction | People sit all the way around the fire |
| Outdoor fireplace | Drawn up a full flue | Forward, from a wider opening | You want a permanent architectural focal point |
Is a steel, clay or cast iron chiminea better?
For a chiminea left out in a UK garden, steel is the most durable of the three common materials. Clay chimineas cost roughly £60 to £150 but absorb moisture, freeze and crack, and typically need replacing within 1 to 3 years outdoors in the UK. Cast iron is genuinely durable but heavy at 40kg or more, and is prone to cracking if heated quickly when cold and wet. Decorative steel in the £150 to £350 bracket tolerates rain and survives frost provided the base is not left waterlogged, giving around a decade of service with basic care. The full reasoning is in our guide to the best chimineas for UK gardens.
