BonTino questions, answered
Does the BonTino need a chimney or professional installation?
No. It's a self-contained wood-burning fireplace with its own built-in 10 cm stove pipe, so it vents itself with nothing connected to your house. It stands freestanding on its own legs, and there's no flue installation of any kind.
Can I use the BonTino in a UK smoke control area?
Yes. It's a standalone outdoor appliance, and the Clean Air Act's smoke control rules only tighten for fires flued into a building - a summerhouse chimney, for example. Burn Ready to Burn certified, or otherwise well-seasoned and properly dried, logs and it's legal to use on any UK postcode, smoke control area or not. Excessive smoke from any fire can still count as a statutory nuisance if it genuinely bothers neighbours, so dry wood matters either way.
How is the BonTino delivered, and will I need help placing it?
Free UK mainland delivery, next working day if you order before 12pm on a weekday. It arrives on a pallet at 15.3kg, 35 × 35cm across. One person can carry it into place without help.
Will the finish on the BonTino need any looking after?
Depends which you choose. Corten Steel arrives raw silver-grey and starts to rust within a few weeks outdoors; the patina matures over roughly 6 to 12 months into a stable, deep rust-brown that doesn't rust through. Black Steel carries a heat-resistant coating that, like the Corten, also weathers and develops a rustic character of its own over time.
What is the difference between the BonTino and the BonCarré?
They share the same 35 × 35cm footprint, 164cm height and included accessories, at a near-identical price (BonTino £219.95 vs BonCarré £219.50). The BonTino is round; the BonCarré is square. Pick on shape.
Outdoor fireplace or fire pit: which is better for a UK garden?
An outdoor fireplace and a fire pit are not interchangeable. The BonTino is the fireplace side of that choice: its built-in stove pipe draws smoke up and away and throws heat forward from one opening, making it a focal point against a wall or at the end of a terrace. A fire pit sits low and open, radiating heat in every direction instead. Choose a fireplace when the seating faces one way and smoke drifting across the table is what you want to avoid.
Who the BonTino is for
It is a good fit if:
- You want a genuine cooking fireplace, not just a fire feature: the wok ring and lid are included, not sold as an extra.
- You want the round silhouette rather than square - see the BonCarré if you'd prefer square.
Consider something else if:
- You want the lightest model to carry into place: the BonBono is lighter still (13.6 kg) for £5 more.
- You want to grill without lifting anything out of the fire first: the BonGiro's rotatable grill swings clear of the flame instead.
