Collection: Outdoor Gas Heaters

An outdoor gas heater is the simplest way to extend a garden evening into the cooler months. It puts out direct radiant warmth over a circle 2 to 4 metres across, lights instantly on LPG and lets you sit outside in November and February without reaching for an extra blanket.

Patio heater, pyramid heater or tabletop

Tall patio heaters are the standard outdoor heater you see at restaurants, with a burner head and a reflector dish at the top of a 2.2 metre pole. Pyramid or flame heaters route the gas through a glass tube, giving you a 1.5 metre tower of dancing flame as well as the heat. Tabletop heaters sit on a dining table and warm a smaller area, which works well for an intimate dinner for four.

Heat output and coverage

Most domestic outdoor gas heaters put out between 7 kW and 14 kW. A 13 kW heater warms a circle roughly 3 metres across and runs for 8 to 10 hours on a 13 kg propane cylinder. Commercial-grade heaters reach 16 kW and cover a larger group. Each product page lists output in kW and run time per cylinder.

Safety features to look for

Every outdoor gas heater we stock has a flame failure device that shuts off the gas if the flame goes out, plus an anti-tilt switch that cuts the supply if the heater is knocked over. Look for CE marking and a UK regulator supplied in the box.

Frequently asked questions

How much area does a patio heater warm?

A standard 13 kW patio heater warms a circle 3 metres across, which suits a four-to-six seat dining table or a small lounge area. Larger gatherings need two heaters spaced around the seating.

How long does a gas bottle last in a patio heater?

Roughly 8 to 10 hours of continuous use on a 13 kg propane cylinder at full heat. Running on a lower setting extends that significantly.

Can outdoor gas heaters be used in winter?

Yes. Propane performs well down to about minus 10 degrees Celsius, which covers nearly every UK winter evening. Butane should be avoided in cold weather.

Are outdoor gas heaters safe near a covered patio?

Yes, with adequate ventilation and at least 1 metre of clearance above the burner head. Always read the manufacturer's clearance specification before installation.
