Collection: Outdoor Fireplaces

An outdoor fireplace with a chimney flue is a freestanding wood-burning fire feature for the garden, designed to direct heat outward from a back wall while channelling smoke up and away from seated guests. Unlike a fire pit, which throws warmth in every direction, a fireplace concentrates the heat in front of it, which suits a patio with one-sided seating.

Why choose a flued outdoor fireplace

Three reasons stand out. First, the chimney pulls smoke upward, away from seated guests, which is the single biggest comfort difference compared with an open fire pit. Second, the back wall reflects heat outward, so anyone sitting in front of the fireplace feels noticeably warmer. Third, the flue shelters the flame from cross-winds, which means a steadier fire on a breezy autumn evening.

Materials and build

The flued outdoor fireplaces in our range are built from Corten weathering steel and powder-coated mild steel, with refractory liners in the burn chamber. Steel gauges run from 3 mm to 6 mm depending on model. Corten patinates to a warm russet that suits a planted garden. Powder-coated black or anthracite reads as more architectural.

Placement and clearance

Allow 1 metre of clearance on every side and 2 metres of vertical clearance above the flue. The fireplace needs the open sky above the chimney to draw properly, so a fully covered patio is not suitable. A pergola with an open roof or a clear sky above is fine.

What we stock at Fireside Boutique

The flued outdoor fireplace range includes models from BonFeu, Moodz and Adezz. Each is chosen for build quality and the longevity of the steelwork. Free UK delivery and a manufacturer warranty are included.

Frequently asked questions

Does a flued outdoor fireplace need a foundation?

A stable, level, non-combustible base such as paving slabs or a concrete pad is essential. The heavier models, 80 kg and above, should not be placed on a soft surface.

How tall is the chimney typically?

Most flued outdoor fireplaces in the range sit between 1.8 and 2.4 metres tall overall, with the flue making up the upper third. This is enough to draw smoke clear of seated guests.

Can I burn coal or smokeless fuel in an outdoor fireplace?

Wood is the recommended fuel for almost every model in the range. Manufacturer instructions specify which fuels are approved for use.

How often does the flue need cleaning?

Once a year, before regular use begins in autumn, is a sensible interval. A short flue brush from a hardware shop is all you need.
